Matilda “Tillie” M. Twardowski, 87, of rural Granville passed away Nov. 11, 2012, in Illinois Valley Community Hospital, Peru.

Service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Dysart-Cofoid Funeral Chapel, Granville. The Rev. Paul Meismer will officiate. Burial will be at Valley Memorial Park, Spring Valley.

Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

She was born Feb. 9, 1925, in Dalzell to Alphonso and Maria (Pinotti) Galassi. She married Edwin Twardowski on Feb. 23, 1952, in Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, La Salle.

She attended La Salle-Peru Township High School. She was a homemaker and also worked at the shipyards in Senica and Leslie’s shoe store.

She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Spring Valley, Altar and Rosary Society, La Salle Civic Women’s Club and Standard Mothers Club. Also, she had been a 4-H leader.

Survivors are her husband, Edwin Twardowski of rural Granville; one son, John (Rene’) Twardowski of Granville; one daughter, Mary Jo (Joseph) Suarez of Oglesby; three grandchildren, Steven and Jennifer Twardowski and Justin Suarez; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Standard Fire and Rescue, Granville Fire Department,  Putnam County ambulance training or the donor’s choice.

Pallbearers will be Steven Twardowski, Justin Suarez, William Hebel, Pete Meyer, Dan Withrow, Edmund Wieczorek, Ronald Mini and Alan Aimone.
