John 'Rip' Carlile
John T. “Rip” Carlile, 74, of La Salle passed away Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.
Funeral services will be at noon Monday at Mueller-Pagani Funeral Home in La Salle with Betty Delgado, pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ in La Salle, officiating. Private burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in La Salle. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. until the time of services Monday in the funeral home.
Mr. Carlile was born Oct. 29, 1937, in Nashville, Ind., to Charles and Helen (Lafferty) Carlile.
He married Sylvia Harmston on June 29, 1957, in Ottawa.
Mr. Carlile was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in La Salle. He was a
retired railroad foreman having worked 28 years with Rock Island and CSX railroads. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance. He enjoyed gardening and collecting coins and railroad memorabilia.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia of La Salle; five children, Angela Thomas of La Salle, Josie (John) Walker of Akron, Ohio, Sandra (Paul) Grotti of La Salle, Phillip Carlile of Sullivan and adopted daughter, Paula Sylvester of Peru; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one sister, Ruth Miller of Peru.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and one sister.
