Youth baseball/softball: Spring Valley eliminated from section tournament

The Spring Valley Little League softball team was eliminated from the Section 1 Tournament over the weekend.

On Saturday, Spring Valley lost 16-0 to Freeport at St. Mary’s Park in La Salle. Spring Valley was knocked out of the tournament with an 8-0 loss Sunday to Brookfield.

In other softball action, the Senior League softball District 20 championship series between La Salle and Spring Valley is scheduled to begin at 7 tonight in Spring Valley.

In baseball, the Little League championship series was set after each sub district crowned champions over the weekend.

Ottawa beat Spring Valley 8-3 on Saturday to win the American Sub District, while Streator defeated Ottawa 13-9 on Sunday to claim the National Sub District.

The best-of-three championship series begins Wednesday in Utica.

In Minor League sub district action, Ottawa beat Mendota 13-3 and Spring Valley topped Peru 7-2 on Saturday in the American Sub District, while Marseilles beat Utica 8-7 and Ottawa defeated La Salle 12-2 in the National Sub District.

On Sunday, Bi-County topped Ottawa 11-8 and Peru beat Mendota 6-5 in the American Sub District, while Streator defeated Marseilles 12-2 and Oglesby beat Ottawa 5-4 in the National Sub District.

In the American Sub District, Spring Valley and Bi-County will play at 6 tonight in the semifinals with Peru and Ottawa to follow in an elimination game.

In the National Sub District, Streator and Oglesby will play at 6 p.m. Tuesday for a spot in the title series. Utica and Ottawa will play at 6 tonight in an elimination game with La Salle and Marseilles to follow in another elimination game.

In 10-11 baseball, La Salle defeated Peru 6-3 and Streator beat Ottawa American 8-3 on Saturday, while Ottawa American beat Bi-County 13-7 and La Salle topped Spring Valley 9-4 on Sunday.

Streator and Ottawa National play at 6 tonight with the winner advancing to play La Salle at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the semifinals. Ottawa American and Bi-County play at 8 tonight in an elimination game.

Peru has reached the Junior League baseball championship series with a 7-3 victory Sunday over Bi-County. Peru plays the winner of tonight’s Spring Valley vs. Bi-County game at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Spring Valley beat La Salle 20-11 on Saturday and edged Oglesby 24-22 on Sunday. Oglesby beat Mendota 5-4 on Saturday.
