Public Law 113-12 — The Stolen Valor Act would make it a crime to benefit from lying about having received a military honor or medal. H.R. 258 filed Jan. 15, 2013, by U.S. Rep. Joseph Heck (R-Nev.). Passed the U.S. House 390-3 on May 20. Passed the U.S. Senate by unanimous consent on May 22. Signed into law June 3.
State Bills
Senate Bill 1609 — Laws prohibiting threats against public officials apply to government social workers, too. Filed Feb. 13, 2013, by Sen. David Koehler (D-Peoria). Passed the Senate 54-0 on April 23, 2013. Amended version passed the House 115-0 on May 15, 2013. Senate concurred 58-0 on May 28, 2013.
House Bill 3190 — Students entering the sixth through 12th grades in 2014 must be vaccinated against meningitis. Filed Feb. 26, 2013, by Rep. JoAnn Osmond (R-Gurnee). Passed the House 110-0 on April 9, 2013. Amended version passed the Senate 52-0 on May 15, 2013. House concurred 117-0 on May 22, 2013.
Public Act 98-0020 — Creates the Foreclosure Prevention Program Graduated Fund, which will be used for foreclosure prevention counseling and for the cleanup of abandoned and foreclosed residential properties. Effective immediately. SB 1674 filed Feb. 13, 2013, by Sen. Jacqueline Collins (D-Chicago). Passed the Senate 55-0 on April 10, 2013. Amended version passed the House 89-26 on May 29, 2013. Rep. Frank Mautino (D-Spring Valley) voted yes. Senate concurred 49-7 on May 31. Sen. Sue Rezin (R-Morris) voted yes. Signed into law June 11, 2013, by Gov. Pat Quinn.
