No major injuries reported in school bus crash

GRANVILLE — A bus carrying a few students and a monitor for the Putnam County School District was involved in an accident this morning with another vehicle just south of Granville.

“Our students are OK,” Putnam County school district superintendent Jay McCracken said.

The students were taken to St. Margaret’s Hospital in Spring Valley as a precautionary measure, McCracken said, adding that he was following them to the hospital. He said the driver and the monitor also appeared to be OK.
McCracken went to the scene of the accident after he received the call at

approximately 7:20 a.m. The bus involved was a special education bus, McCracken added.
“The bus and the car ended up in the field,” he said.

Although there is an investigation into the matter, it doesn’t appear that the accident was the fault of the bus driver, McCracken said.

The woman in the other vehicle also was being transported to St. Margaret’s, according to McCracken.

The company, the Illinois Central bus company, provides transportation for the Putnam County School District.

“They had a representative there at the site,” McCracken said.
