Wenona discusses projects, Meet the Candidates Night

WENONA —  This week, Wenona City Council declined to purchase warranties for two laptop computers used in the city offices.
n The bidding for the Third Street asphalt overlay from Locust to Hickory streets was estimated at $170,000. A discussion over the availability of funds led to a decision to postpone action until the spring. “You can go into the summer months. Even if you bid it in June, you’d have some good bids,” engineer Dean Chalkey advised the council.
n Acting mayor Russ Martin read a letter from the Office of the Illinois Secretary of State expressing the appreciation of the work of Fieldcrest High School staff and students in making people aware of the dangers of texting and driving. Sheila Healy described a booklet the students had developed to illustrate the problem to younger children. The council appropriated $250 to help fund the student project.
n Healy described the plan of the chamber of commerce to have a Meet the Candidates night at the American Legion hall 7-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 5. That will be followed by a half hour during which the candidates will res
