HENRY — A Republican Caucus will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3 at the Henry-Senachwine High School Auditorium in Henry. A Democrat Caucus will be at 6:30 p.m. at the River Park Center City Council Chambers in Henry.
Only registered voters who reside in Henry city limits shall be permitted to vote or take part in the caucus proceedings. Participants must attend the caucus of their party. No voter shall participate in more than one caucus.
At a caucus, more than one person can be nominated from the floor. A vote will be taken to decide which candidate shall be placed on the April 9 ballot.
A candidate who participates at a caucus and who is defeated at the caucus for nomination is ineligible to be listed as a candidate of another political party, an independent candidate or to file a declaration of intent to be a write-in at the consolidated election.
Independent candidates are defined as those individuals who are not candidates of any political party, but who are candidates in an election at which party candidates may appear on the ballot. Nomination papers must be filled in the office of the appropriate local election official, the city clerk, during the filing period, Dec. 17-24.
If a registered voter wants to attend a caucus of their choice, they cannot sign an independent petition.
Nominating candidates for the upcoming election are the following four-year terms: Mayor, city clerk, treasurer, First Ward alderman, Second Ward alderman and Third Ward alderman.
For further information, contact city clerk Jean Goldner at (309) 364-3056.
