A fire raging in a bedroom and bathroom when Peru firefighters arrived likely destroyed a house in Dimmick Township on Wednesday.
Peru fire chief said firefighters were called at 5:58 p.m. and found flames coming from two rooms upon their arrival at 395 3179th Road two miles north of Peru and east of Airport Road and east of the Little Vermilion River.
Peru called for mutual aid from Spring Valley, Oglesby, Mendota, Troy Grove and La Salle fire departments, shuttling water to the scene.
“We used about 5,000 gallons of water,” said Jeff King,Peru fire chief.
He said the one-story, modular home owned by Sam Seghi sustained extensive smoke and water damage throughout, in addition to the fire damage to rooms.
He and an investigator from state fire marshal’s office were heading out at 9:40 a.m. to try to determine the cause of the fire.
