More than 30 businesses from the Illinois Valley and beyond participated in the 13th annual Illinois Valley Home, Garden & Lifestyle Show at Celebrations 150 this weekend. The event was sponsored by radio stations AM1220 WLPO, 99.3 WAJK and 96.5 THE WOLF.

This year’s show drew a fair crowd on Saturday, but La Salle County Broadcasting vice president of sales and marketing Mark Lippert expected an even larger crowd on Sunday.

“I’ve been here for seven years, and Sunday’s always busier,” he said. “We’ve been real pleased. It’s a nice casual show and people get a chance to actually talk.”

Don Elmore, owner of Elmore Electric and Elmore Heating & Air, Princeton, said he enjoys talking with the other vendors as well as meeting with potential clients.

“It’s always a good show,” he said. “People have good questions — lots of good technical questions, and that’s the reason we’re here.”

Elmore spoke with several people who were interested in learning about solar lighting and geo-thermal energy.

“I think most of the questions are in new technology and generators,” he said. “But we also talk about Christmas lighting and landscape lighting — all kinds of things.”

Karla Goskusky, sales consultant for Morton Buildings, said she met a few people on Saturday who were interested in building homes.

“They’re kind of surprised to see some of the interior shots,” she said. “They think Morton buildings is just the machine storage, and we do a lot more.”

Show attendees could register to win $500 to spend at any of the vendors involved. Participating businesses also offered door prizes, including $500 off a purchase of 10 cabinets at Builder’s Choice of La Salle and a $10,000 home makeover from Pitcher Perfect Siding and Window Company of East Peoria. Other prizes included a water cooler stand, a recliner and a $14,000 garage.
