Ottawa High to host county spelling bee

OTTAWA — La Salle County Spelling Bee will be Saturday in the Ottawa Township High School Auditorium, 211 E. Main Street, Ottawa.

The competition will start at 9 a.m. Contestants are advised to arrive no later than 8:30 a.m. for instructions and seating assignments.

Admission is free. Thirty-six school district winners will be competing for the county championship. La Salle County’s winner will then compete in the Grand Finals in Peoria at WEEK TV on March 15.

The first-place winner will receive a $100 gift certificate to The Book Mouse and a $250 cash prize provided by William Ieuter Trust, and a first-place plaque. The Stretch Miller Memorial Spelling Bee traveling plaque, presented to the first-place winner for one year, has a space for engraving the year, name and school of each annual winner. The traveling plaque is to be on display in the school of the winning contestant for one year. Second prize will be a $100 gift certificate to The Book Mouse, a $100 cash prize provided by William Ieuter Trust and a second-place plaque. Each participant will receive a trophy as winner of their school spelling bee.
