Henry Love Lights A Tree has earned thousands in fight against cancer
HENRY — The annual Love Lights a Tree fundraiser in Henry has raised thousands of dollars for the American Cancer Society in its 19 years.
Jean Goldner, who organizes the event, said the money raised through Love Lights a Tree is included in the Marshall-Putnam Relay for Life totals.
“All the money does stay here in our region (the Peoria region),” Goldner said.
Typically each year, Love Lights a Tree raises between $1,000 to $1,500, according to Goldner.
This year is no exception, with the total amount raised already over $1,000, thanks to the generous donations people have sent.
“People might only want one light lit, but they send me more money than five dollars,” she said.
Those who want to take part in the Love Lights a Tree project can send a $5 donation for every light they want lit on the tree, which is located on the corner of Third Street and West Park Row in Henry’s Central Park. The fundraiser, which began Nov. 23, ends Dec. 31. For every $5 donated, a white light replaces a red light on the tree.
To make a donation, send a check payable to the American Cancer Society to Love Lights a Tree, c/o Jean Goldner, 1038 Warren St., Henry, IL 61537. The donor should also include their name and address, plus the printed name of the person being honored by the light.
