Advantage Logistics, a warehouse in Oglesby that supplies Supervalu stores, will lose an unspecified number of employees after Supervalu closes a sale this week of more than 800 stores. Mike Siemienas, Supervalu spokesman in Minneapolis, said Friday he had “no numbers to release at this time” on how many employees will lose their jobs. “It means there will be a reduction in employees at that facility,” Siemienas said. Supervalu officials will meet with warehouse employees in a sequence based on their seniority, he said. “A lot of decisions are based on seniority,” Siemienas said. “Decisions like this are never easy but this is a change that will be necessary to better position the facility for long-term success.” The closing of the sale of retail stores is anticipated this week. Supervalu distribution centers tied to certain stores will be sold as well, he said. Advantage Logistics is not tied to a certain store and will not be sold. But it will lose business because the stores being sold have pharmacies. “The (Oglesby) facility will lose a significant amount of its current pharmacy business,” Siemienas said. “That happens to be a warehouse that’s affected by the pharmacy businesses.” In January Supervalu announced a decision to sell a significant portion of its retail stores, including Jewel-Osco, Acme, Shaw’s, Albertson’s and Star Market stores, to AB Acquisitions. Supervalu is selling 877 stores and keeping 191 stores, Siemienas said. It will maintain its wholesale business and some stores including Save-a-Lot, he said. A Supervalu store, Jewel-Osco in Peru, closed a year ago.
