Oglesby school board proceeds with plans for building addition

Plans to add classroom space onto Lincoln School in Oglesby are going to proceed regardless of the sales tax ballot referendum’s failure.

Oglesby Elementary school board members authorized Superintendent Mike Pillion to work with architects to begin preliminary design plans for adding at least an additional classroom.

School district officials were hopeful the 1 percent School Facility Sales Tax increase would have passed earlier this month.

But even without that new revenue, the district has run out of adequate classroom space for its growing student population.

“Now, after the sales tax issue, we have to decide if we are going to move forward on a new classroom,” Pillion said.

In addition to preliminary plans for a classroom, Pillion said he would begin work on developing a comprehensive, long-term building plan for the district which would likely include input from the community.

In other business:
*While the sales tax issue failed in 4 of Oglesby school districts 5 voting districts, Pillion said: “It’s still something that could be beneficial for us. It’s something we could think about for the future.”
