Events for Lily scheduled

NT Staff

A group raising support for a La Salle girl with cancer has announced three upcoming events, including two designed to “give back” to those who have helped out so far.

* “Lights for Lily” will continue through Monday, Dec. 31. Jen Riva, one of the coordinators, said volunteers wanted to organize tree decorating to cheer up Lily Rosploch, a 3-year-old girl diagnosed this summer with cancer. The trees are placed outside of R&R Landscap-ing, a business run by Lily’s father, Mike Rosploch. Anyone can bring ornaments to hang on the trees at any time during November or December. “Christmas is going to be very different this year for them,” Riva said.

One tree is 40 feet tall, with a star on top. Another is decorated with white lights in honor of family and community members who have fought cancer. On that tree, people are encouraged to hang ornaments in honor or in memory of a loved one, according to Jen Riva, a coordinator of the “Lights for Lily” effort.

* “Lily’s toys for joy,” a toy drive for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Peoria, will run until Saturday, Dec. 1. People can drop off new, unwrapped toys on a trailer at R&R Landscaping to be delivered to the hospital.

*To give back and thank the community for supporting Lily, a Christmas celebration will begin at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17 at R&R Landscaping. There will be Christmas carolers, cookies, hot chocolate, a blessing and the release of wish lanterns.
