UPDATE: Route 178 motorcycle crash kills Streator man

NT Staff

A 65-year-old Streator man died from injuries Wednesday after crashing his motorcycle into a tractor on Route 178 just north of the main entrance to Matthiessen State Park, according to state police.

Jerry D. Trenor of 86 Circle Drive reportedly was attempting to pass a tractor from behind when the tractor operator, Daniel J. Corcoran of 928 Gooding St., La Salle, attempted to turn left onto a field entrance.

State police said the left front tire of the tractor was struck by the front end of Trenor’s Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

“The collision occurred in the southbound lane. (The motorcycle) skidded approximately 36 feet on the pavement and gravel shoulder before entering the left ditch and overturning several times,” according to the police report. Trenor was ejected from the motorcycle, and was transported to Illinois Valley Community Hospital, Peru for treatment of injuries. He was unable to provide a statement to police due to injuries sustained, according to the state trooper.

Utica firefighters assisted emergency medical technicians in immobilizing the crash victim for transport. By mid-afternoon Wednesday, a LifeFlight helicopter was transporting Trenor to Peoria.

Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll said Trenor was pronounced dead at 6:03 p.m. Wednesday in the emergency room at St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.

An autopsy is scheduled today.
