Race for village president forms in Lostant

Amy Flanery
Lifestyle Editor

LOSTANT — Village President Fred Hartenbower will have competition for his position in Lostant this spring. Lifelong resident John Wever also will be on the ballot.

“John’s a good guy,” Hartenbower said when asked about the development.
Wever has been a school board member for almost two years, but has not yet campaigned for a position.

He volunteered to fill a seat that was left vacant after the 2011 school board election.

Wever said he got the idea to run for mayor when he heard Hartenbower was not going to run, but had not filed his petition yet when he learned otherwise.
He decided to go ahead with his plan.

Wever, a mechanic, said he believes he can help the town with its financial situation by donating his own time for village projects.

“I just felt I could do the town more good,” he said.

Hartenbower has been village president for the past six years. He said his campaign slogan is: “No agenda — just common sense.”
